about me

001 - _DSC5302My name is Jeff Wischkaemper. I work at Texas A&M University as a power systems researcher.

Neither of those things really tell you much about me, though. Probably the best way to get to know who I am, outside of spending time with me, is to read what I write. I feel in so many ways that writing is a window to the soul, an insight not only into what the author thinks, but who he or she is – the issues that are important to them, the way they interact, and the kind of person they are.

Some things about me that might not be immediately obvious.

  • While it might seem as though I like to read, I really don’t. I would much prefer to listen than to read. Every now and then I’ll get captured by a book and sit down until I’m finished to read it. It doesn’t happen extremely often, but sometimes I have to disappear for a while.
  • I like photography. While this is fairly obvious to people who know me, and probably to anyone who’s visited this site more than about 3 times, it’s one of those things I like to do to relieve stress. For those of you who are interested, in the past couple of years I’ve converted over to a micro four thirds based system, primarily due to size and weight. My current collection consists of an Olympus OM-D E-M1, a Panasonic GH4, with the Panasonic 12-35mm 2.8, Panasonic 35-100 2.8mm, and Olympus 60mm macro. I far prefer it to lugging a ton of heavy gear around. I’ve also recently added a D750, hoping to get into a bit more astrophotography. My recent photography projects have involved multi-image stitching, which I find both interesting and technically challenging. I’d love to answer any questions you have about photography, or my pictures, and of course if you’re interested in buying any of them, I’d be happy to make arrangements.
  • I enjoy writing. Sometimes it’s something I do to clear my head. In many ways I think the benedictions I now write were a way of coping with a deep source of pain in my life, though they have transitioned into something different. The meditations are either old passages published here because I felt they conveyed something, or new things that come up in life here and there. If you want to use any of the posts here on my site, please feel free to, so long as you credit me in some way. If you have a blog and you like something I’ve written and comment on it, feel free to trackback. I always enjoy hearing comments and what you think about what I’ve written, rather in email or on the blog. I am constantly surprised by the places where people are from, and how people find my site. I would love to hear your story, as well as sharing mine.

If you’d like to contact me, you can reach me at – jeff at wisch dot org. I try to respond to emails, and I’m pretty good if I’m sitting at my computer when I get it, but not so good if I’m not. Keep prompting me.

May God bless you in your journey, and may you find some small bit of encouragement from reading these words.
