about me

Filed under: Uncategorized — Jeff @ 5:49 pm

My name is Jeff Wischkaemper. I’m an Electrical Engineering student at Texas A&M University, and I’m currently working on my Ph.D.

Neither of those things really tell you much about me, though. Probably the best way to get to know who I am, outside of spending time with me, is to read what I write. I feel in so many ways that writing is a window to the soul, an insight not only into what the author thinks, but who he or she is - the issues that are important to them, the way they interact, and the kind of person they are.

Some things about me that might not be immediately obvious.

  • I like Liverpool. Not the city, but the soccer team. It’s hard to root for a team like Chelsea or Real Madrid who resemble the Yankees - buying up everyone in sight, and it’s hard to root for a team like FC Barcelona that’s full of a bunch of crybabies. No, the real blue collar team to root for is Liverpool.
  • While it might seem as though I like to read, I really don’t. I would much prefer to listen than to read. Every now and then I’ll get captured by a book and sit down until I’m finished to read it. It doesn’t happen extremely often, but sometimes I have to disappear for a while.
  • I like photography. While this is fairly obvious to people who know me, and probably to anyone who’s visited this site more than about 3 times, it’s one of those things I like to do to relieve stress. For those of you who are interested, I shoot mostly Nikon gear. My current collection consists of a D200 with the following lenses: Nikon 17-55 2.8, Sigma 150 Macro, Nikon 200mm Macro, Nikon 50mm 1.4, Sigma 70-200 2.8, and a Tokina 12-24. I recently purchased a Panasonic LX-2 point and shoot, which I am enjoying so far. I’d love to answer any questions you have about photography, or my pictures, and of course if you’re interested in buying any of them, I’d be happy to make arrangements.
  • I enjoy writing. Sometimes it’s something I do to clear my head. In may ways I think the benedictions I now write were a way of coping with a deep source of pain in my life, though they have transitioned into something different. The meditations are either old passages published here because I felt they conveyed something, or new things that come up in life here and there. If you want to use any of the posts here on my site, please feel free to, so long as you credit me in some way. If have a blog and you like something I’ve written and comment on it, feel free to trackback. I always enjoy hearing comments and what you think about what I’ve written, rather in email or on the blog. I am constantly surprised by the places where people are from, and how people find my site. I would love to hear your story, as well as sharing mine.

If you’d like to contact me, my address is spelled out at the bottom of each page - jeff at wisch dot org. I try to respond to emails, and I’m pretty good if I’m sitting at my computer when I get it, but not so good if I’m not. Keep prompting me.

May God bless you in your journey, and may you find some small bit of encouragement from reading these words.

~jeff
